NEW WAVY HAIRCUT STYLES SUMMER 2010

Ah, waves. They’ll never really go out of style, unlike the Obama Chia Pet. That one still makes me scratch my head just thinking about it.

The new wavy hairstyles for this year are all about hair length, which is currently set at medium – not unlike my dryer when I don’t want my jeans to shrink. It’s not too short and not too long, but just right.

Instead of piecy waves, this year it looks like natural waves are making a comeback. They’re casual, and not all processed. They hang free, and are not decorated in any shape, way, form or fashion. They should look effortless, not like you’ve spent a lot of time and work on them. In order to obtain a wavy hairstyle, women use many different techniques, like finger drying. This involves drying your hair with your fingers only, instead of a brush for that straight look. It also adds body. Scrunch drying is another technique: scrunching your hair and holding it as it dries.

Of course, the traditional curling iron is probably what you’re used to and is preferred, since the other two ways will require some practice and perhaps a bit of guidance from a stylist. If you’re going to use a curling iron, you should use the biggest barrel possible. You’re not looking for curls – you’re looking for waves. Also, if you’re trying to make the look stay, I find using a soft-hold spritz or hairspray works after curling the hair, not before. This way the style holds, and is still touchable and soft.
